Counter-Engage Windows¶
A counter-engage window appears when the enemy has spent cooldowns and your zerg is still alive.
Many players lose this window because they keep running after the danger has passed.
Core idea¶
Enemy engage creates danger while it is landing. After it lands, the enemy may become vulnerable.
If your group survives, the next question is:
Who is safe enough to pressure now?
How to recognize the window¶
Ask:
- Did enemy damage already land?
- Did enemy mobility/engage tools get spent?
- Are enemy DPS or tanks overextended?
- Is your zerg still healthy enough to turn?
- Are you personally safe or still in danger?
- Is the caller setting a counter direction?
If yes, some players should already be preparing pressure or counter damage.
Role response¶
| Role | Counter-window job |
|---|---|
| Tanks | stop enemy from freely walking out |
| Supports | stabilize danger area and protect the turn |
| Healers | heal the people who absorbed the engage |
| DPS | step into range and start useful damage |
| Support DPS | land pierce/heal cut/utility on time |
| Safe players | do not abandon the fight |
Common failure¶
The whole zerg sees enemy damage on screen and keeps backing even though only part of the zerg was actually in danger. Safe players drift too far away, so the counter lands late or not at all.
Practice drill¶
After enemy engage lands, divide players into:
- players still in danger
- safe players who should pressure
- players too far away to affect the fight
The third group is the learning target.
